Analysis, PDEs and Applications

Summer School and Conference

June 24 - July 6, 2024, Yerevan, Armenia

About the Conference

The conference Analysis, PDEs and Applications will be held in Yerevan, Armenia, July 1 - 6, 2024. It is organised jointly by Ghent Analysis and PDE Center and Yerevan State University, and is dedicated to the 70th anniversary of Prof. Martin Grigoryan.

The scope of the conference is Analysis and PDEs broadly defined, including harmonic analysis and spectral theory, complex analysis and theory of functions, linear and non-linear PDEs and inverse problems, as well as applied analysis and mathematical physics.

You can register your participation at the conference through the registration form below (click here). The deadline for registration is 1st of May, 2024.

The regular fee is 175 EUR, to be paid at the registration desk. This amount does not include accommodation and the conference banquet. Participants from developing countries and PhD students may be offered a discounted fee of 50 EUR upon prior written request.

Everyone is welcome to deliver a talk at the conference. The capacity may be limited: please register soon to make sure there are free slots in the schedule. Please indicate whether you are planning to give a talk at the conference by selecting an option in the registration form. We will contact you by email for the title and abstract of your talk, if you are planning to deliver one.

Speakers will have the opportunity to submit en extended abstract for publication at a special issue devoted to this conference. The issue will be part of the series Perspectives Ghent Analysis and PDE Center, within the series Trends in Mathematics by Birkhäuser. Click here to find out more about the series.

About the Summer School

The Summer School in Analysis, PDEs and Applications will be held 24-28 June, 2024, in Yerevan, Armenia. It is intended for research students and early postdoctoral researchers of all nationalities interested in modern aspects of Analysis and PDEs, as well as some of their applications. Our lecturers are both distinguished scholars in their respective fields and young promising mathematicians from around the world, and they will deliver mini-courses on topics close to their areas of research. Attendees will have the opportunity to interact with the lecturers during and beyond the lectures. The language of instruction and communication is English.

The Summer School in Analysis, PDEs and Applications is intended for all research students and postdocs from any country interested in aspects of modern mathematical analysis, differential equations and mathematical physics.

Participation is free of charge, but due to limited sitting capacity it is highly recommended that prospective participants register on this website before the deadline.

Lectures will take place in the Faculty of Mathematics and Mechanics at Yerevan State University. See below for the address and a map. Exact room locations will be announced with the schedule.

Travel and Accommodation

The conference and the summer school will be both held at Yerevan State University, which is in the centre of Yerevan city. Due to the mountainous landscape and geographical location, air travel is usually the only convenient option to reach Yerevan from abroad. Please contact the organisers for all enquires regarding travel and accommodation.

The main gateway to the Armenian capital Yerevan for international travellers is Zvartnots International Airport, which has many connections to Europe and Asia. See the Wikipedia article for airlines and destinations.

Zvartnots International Airport is at a 20 minutes driving distance from Yerevan city centre if traffic-free. However, the route is often overloaded during the daytime, and the trip may take much longer. Internet-based taxi services gg and Yandex serve the airport, as well as a few shuttles and bus lines. See the Wikipedia article for some details.

Nationals of many countries (e.g., EU, UK) may travel to Armenia for periods of up to 90 days without a visa. Others may obtain an electronic visa on the website of the corresponding authorities. Find out if you need a visa and how to obtain one on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia.

Limited capacity is available at the University Guesthouse, which will be mostly provided to plenary speakers and lecturers. There are many hotels at a walking distance from the main venue. But be sure to book your rooms in advance: Yerevan is a popular destination in the summer, and hotels may be overbooked.

Yerevan is officially one of the safest cities in the world (see, e.g., here). Levels of street crime are negligible, and the city is bursting with life 24 hours. The city may lag behind some developed countries in terms of infrastructure for family travel (e.g., ramps, lifts), but the populace is very warm and welcoming towards families and children.

The local currency is the Armenian Dram (see here for current rates, or simply Google). Payments in other currencies are very rare. All major international payment cards are widely accepted (except Discover/Diners Club). A dense network of ATMs is serving the city centre, and some of the small local traders may not accept some payment cards. It is not recommended to exchange currency at the airport due to rather hostile rates.
